There is a general misconception that Agile practices are used mainly in IT/Software Industry. While it is true that the word “Agile” is commonly used in software industry, it is not the only industry which can benefit from adoption of Agile practices. Any industry which wants to be flexible about the final outcomes to be expected can adopt agile practices and benefit from the lower cost of changes. They have to however follow Agile design practices like SOLID etc.

We see many participants from Non-IT industries (like construction) who feel very much at home with Agile practices. Agile principles are also fairly well adopted in other industries. In fact, one can argue that the origins of Agile practices lay in Manufacturing sector’s adoption of “Just in Time” systems. Many large construction industries make heavy use of pre-fabricated structures and these are a great example of Agile practices where the final layout the proposed structure was able to change in the middle of execution. Sydney opera house is one such example.
