PMP CERTIFICATION APPLICATION PROCESS

PMP is one of the most sought after credential for professionals in project management. As some of the time the time, professionals have to take valuable certifications like PMP to be able to enhance their careers.

After satisfying yourself about your eligibility for the exam, and the cost involved, you need to know the following information about the application process:

  1. Registering with PMI
  2. Selecting the certificate and filling the form
  3. Submit the application form and wait for acceptance.
  4. After acceptance, take PMI Membership by paying USD139.
  5. After getting the membership id, pay the pmp examination fee of USD405.
  6. Your application may be selected for audit during anytime after point-2 till now
  7. After your application is approved and you are given an approval id.
  8. Using this approval id, you need to visit Pearson VUE site to schedule the exam.
  9. Once the scheduling is done, need to take a print out of the scheduling receipt which is required at the exam center on the exam day.

Let us look at the process in little more detail.

PMI Registration

 You need to visit PMI website www.pmi.org to register with them. You are required to give basic personal and professional details here.

You are required to create a login and password for your account with PMI.

Usually it takes less than 5 minutes to complete this process. At the end of this process, you will get a mail from PMI to your registered email.

 Select the certification and fill the application

You can submit your PMP application on PMI’s certification website, www.certification.pmi.org.

This whole application process is a time taking one and advised to keep all the relevant data like contact information, address, professional experiences and project management educational proof with you to start the application process.

Generally, if all information is available, you should be able to complete the application process in an hours time. But generally, understanding the application and filling the required fields will be confusing. It is always better to take expert advice to complete the process easily instead of re-inventing the wheel.

Application acceptance

Once the application is submitted it will be proceed for acceptance. This will take any time between 3.5 business days. You will be notified through a mail from PMI.

PMI Membership

Once the application is accepted, you are required to take the membership at https://www.pmi.org/membership

Take the relevant membership by filling the required details. Your membership number is sent to your registered email.

 PMP Exam Fee

Visit ‘mypmi’ on https://www.pmi.org/

You will find on the righthand side of the page about your certification status. Click on proceed to pay the application fee. Or else you can click on the link sent by PMI to your mail with acceptance mail. Then submit the application for approval.

 PMP Application Audit Process

Globally around 10% of the applications are audited randomly to maintain the integrity and credibility of the PMP certification. Once your application is selected for audit, you are required to complete the audit process, instructions of which are mentioned by pmi in the audit package itself.

You are given 90days time to complete the audit process, only after this, you will be allowed further in the application process.

PMP application approval id

After the payment process is done, you will get a approval id using which you can schedule the exam.

Once the scheduling is done, take the print of the exam scheduling receipt to be carried to the exam center on the exam day.

Approval Eligibility Period

Once your application is approved, it is valid for 1 full year with in which, you need to schedule the exam and take the exam.

After this 1 year is over, the application approval will be elapsed and you are required to reapply again.

Also, you can take the exam 3 times in an approval period of 1 year. It mean that there is one first attempt and incase, it is unsuccessful, you can take the exam 2 more times with in the approval period. Needless to mention, the retaking the exam is expensive which involves USD295 for every retake with in the approval time.

As you can see the application process is very exhaustive and time taking, you need to plan your time accordingly.
